The beautiful oak roll top desk and chair that were owned and used for decades by Burt Hunter, Sr., is now the property of the Tennessee Walking Horse Breeders’ and Exhibitors’ Association (TWHBEA). Thanks to the generosity of Bobby Beech and Steve Smith, the desk and chair of the Association’s first president, and one of its founding fathers, is now on permanent display at TWHBEA.
“It is only fitting that this wonderful piece of Tennessee Walking Horse history now sits in the headquarters of the very institution Mr. Hunter helped begin nearly 80 years ago,” said TWHBEA Executive Director Tracy Boyd. “As a TWHBEA founding father, its first president and a 2012 recipient of the TWHBEA Master Breeder Award, Mr. Hunter’s contribution to TWHBEA is immeasurable. “
Mr. Hunter was active in the Association for many years and conducted his business and correspondence from this beautiful desk. This historic piece, along with various items of memorabilia were passed from Mr. Hunter to his daughter, Jerre Hunter Sanders and were offered as part of the Phil and Jerre Sanders family estate sale.
Bobby Beech, long-time friend of the Association, along with current President Steve Smith, secured the items and generously donated them to TWHBEA.
