James Walter Lyons, 87, of Obion, Tenn., died August 29, 2011, at Baptist Memorial Hospital in Union City, Tenn.

Graveside services were conducted Tuesday, August 30, at Rosehill Cemetery in Obion, with the Rev. Eddie Mallonee officiating.

Mr. Lyons was a self-employed painter, a U.S. Navy veteran and a Baptist.

Survivors include his wife, Louise (Tharpe) Lyons; four daughters, Gail McConnell of Union City, Joyce Hopper of Dresden, Becky Sanders of Hobbs, N.M., and Anita Larsen of Durango, Colo.; one sister, Bernice Coleman of the Mt. Pelia community; and eight grandchildren, five great-grandchildren and a great-great-grandchild.

He was also preceded in death by his parents, Walter and Edith (Madden) Lyons; and three brothers, Floyd Lyons, K.D. Lyons and Willie B. Lyons.
