Obituary – Thomas Coleman Crockett, Sr.

Funeral services for Thomas Coleman Crockett, Sr., age 87 of Lewisburg, will be held 10:00am Monday, November 18, 2024, at the Pleasant Grove United Methodist Church with Brother Jim Sorrels officiating. Burial will follow at Round Hill Cemetery in the Belfast Community. Mr. Crockett passed from this life on Wednesday, November 13, 2024, at Maury County Regional Hospital with loved ones by his side.
Visitation with the family will be held 2-5pm Sunday, November 17, 2024 at Doak-Howell Funeral Home.
Mr. Crockett was born March 15, 1937, in Barfield, TN to the late Granville “G.W.” Crockett and Elaine Allison Crockett. Along with his parents he was preceded in death by beloved wife of 56 years, Margaret “Peggy” McGreal Crockett; sisters, Evelyn (Staten) Eubanks, Becky (Bobby) Spencer, and Ruth (Tom) Nevel; and sister-in-law, Barbara (Tony) Leitos.
Originally of Barfield, TN Mr. Crockett grew up in Bedford County. He graduated class of 1955 from Shelbyville Central High School. He worked for Heil Quaker and farmed before joining the U.S. Air Force in 1957. He served honorably until 1961 and returned to Bedford County to begin his first career with Duck River Electric, where he worked as a lineman and foreman for 18 years. In 1978, he started his second career, working with the USDA in the Farm Service Agency as County Executive Director and served Bedford and Moore County for 27 years before retiring in 2006.
During Mr. Crockett’s two careers he was also a farmer and very active within his community. He was a member of Liberty and Belfast Lions Clubs, Lewisburg Elk Lodge, TASCOE, and NASCOE, served on the Hospital Board at Bedford County Hospital, and was caretaker of Round Hill Cemetery.
In his free time, he enjoyed working around the farm, Friday and Saturday nights at Legends, trail riding, and camping. Mr. Crockett loved life and working hard, and all the time he spent with family, friends, and colleagues. He suffered a stroke, while he was with family and friends on a trail ride doing what he enjoyed the most.
Survivors include: children, Lisa Reeves of Shelbyville, Maureen Crockett of Shelbyville and Coleman (Sylvia) Crockett of Lewisburg; grandchildren, Wesley Stapler, Chad (Lauren) Schoenberger, Daniel (Katelin) Schoenberger, Erin (Chase) Nunley, Maddin (Madison McCormick) Reeves, Allison Crockett, and Levi Matthews; great grandchildren, Chase, Anna Kate, Luke, and Eli Schoenberger, and Thomas Nunley. He is also survived by many loving nieces and nephews.
