WGC Cavender visits Capital for Ag Day on the Hill

2024 World Grand Champion Tennessee Walking Horse, Cavender visited the Tennessee State Capital on March 18, 2025 for Ag Day on the Hill. Every March the legislature takes a day for lawmakers to honor one of Tennessee’s largest industries, agriculture. Governor Bill Lee took part again this year along with many members of the state legislature.

In addition to our state lawmakers, Tennessee Commissioner of Agriculture Charlie Hatcher and Deputy Commissioner Andy Holt were in attendance. Both Senators from Tennessee, Marsha Blackburn and Bill Hagerty were also in attendance.

Trainers Tim Smith and Knox Blackburn brought Cavender and answered questions and posed with their talented aged stallion for photos. Tim Smith won his first World Grand Championship aboard Cavender at the 2024 Tennessee Walking Horse National Celebration last August.

SHOW updates ethics and rules requirements for Judges
During the 2025 SHOW Judges’ a discussion was had regarding if owners could show horses in front of a judge that they had horses in training with. Under the 2024 rules, an owner could show a horse that they owned in front of a judge that was also a professional trainer that the same owner also had horses in training. Read More
USDA postpones remaining portion of HPA Rule
The United States Department of Agriculture postponed the effective date of the Horse Protection Rule until February 1, 2026. This postponement means that the Horse Industry Organizations will remain in effect for at least the 2025 show season. Read More

Thomas Aaron Smith, a beloved husband, father, grandfather, and pillar of the Bedford County, Tennessee community, passed away on March 5, 2025, at the age of 88.
